Description In an effort to have a more inclusive water management process, it is necessary to prepare the young generation with the skills, knowledge, capacity and confidence to participate and create solutions towards achieving water security. In 2021, GWP launched the?Water Academy for Youth (WAY) in the Caribbean and Southern Africa as?GWP’s flagship Youth Programme that will be the umbrella programme for GWP’s Youth activities aimed to promote leadership, regional youth capacity building, mentorships, fellowships/internships, networking and intergenerational dialogues. The GWP WAY is a customisable programme that can be adapted to the needs of the region or country that is implementing the programme. The programme revolves around the acceleration of the SDGs and improving the skills of young leaders.
In Southeast Asia, Academy focuses on IWRM implementation in Southeast Asia, with on the ground examples in the areas of disaster preparedness, the source to sea approach and an introduction to the Integrated Water Security Open Programme. The programme also supports youth in their water career journey with the inclusion of professional development workshops on leadership, problem identification, storytelling and regional exchange with the South Asia region.  It is expected that beyond the Academy, the youth selected will continue to be involved in GWP SEA activities and projects through the establishment of a GWP SEA Youth Network.
